#GivingTuesday #Chagives

Do you have a “hard to shop for” person on your gift list?  Consider making a gift to LMM in their honor!

Little Miss Mag is open to ALL families, but our mission is to ensure high-quality early childhood education to low-income families.  As we enter the holidays, there is no better way to honor the season than by supporting children in need.  By donating something on our “wish list” or making a donation via our website, you are making a difference in the lives of the precious children that LMM serves.  When you invest in children, you are investing in the future!

#GivingTuesday #Chagives

Dear Friends of Little Miss Mag,

This year, on Tuesday, December 1, 2015, Little Miss Mag Early Learning Center is participating in #CHAgives, a city-wide day dedicated to giving.

Last year, more than 27,000 organizations in 68 countries came together to celebrate #GivingTuesday, including many joint, city-wide campaigns across the US.  Since its founding in 2012, #GivingTuesday has inspired giving around the world, resulting in greater donations, volunteer hours, and activities that bring about real change in communities.  We invite you to join the movement and to help get out and give this December 1 by joining our local #CHAgives / #GivingTuesday campaign.  Please consider making a donation to supportour classroom wishlists.  Here are a few ideas:

What is Day of Caring?

JOIN THE DAY OF CARING
Volunteer to Live United

United Way’s Annual Day of Caring is about caring volunteers uniting to make an impact at our local human service agencies, schools and other nonprofits.

This year’s annual Day of Caring will be held Thursday, September 11, 2014.

VOLUNTEER NOW BY CALLING RYAN FUGATE AT 423-752-0316
OR EMAIL HIM AT RYANFUGATE@UWCHATT.ORG
OR VISIT iHelpChattanooga.org TO BUILD A VOLUNTEER TEAM

Last year, on September 12, 2013, more than 700 community volunteers across our region worked diligently to complete a total of 54 projects at 48 nonprofit agencies, schools and recreation centers in roughly six to eight hours.  That was approximately a 100% increase over the number of projects worked and agencies helped in 2012.

ACE Hardware's 2013 DOC project of the day was revitalizing the gymnasium at the Youth and Family Development center on West 12th Street. The gym underwent extensive cleaning and repair as twenty volunteers gave their all so that the students in that community will have a new space to play and grow.

Click here to see pictures showing how much fun all of our volunteers had making a hands-on impact!

ACE Hardware, the Day of Caring sponsor, donates a portion of their Labor Day weekend sales to United Way. The 2014 ACE Labor Day Sale will be held from Friday, August 29 through Monday, September 1 (Labor Day). A percentage of every dollar purchased by Helpful Hardware Club Card members is donated. This money helps participating Day of Caring organizations purchase needed supplies for their volunteer projects.

Approximately Thirty-one area corporations gave their employees a day off from work the week of September 12, 2013, so their teams could participate in collective community action that builds lasting change in the Tennessee Valley.

BEER & BRATS

Help raise money for Little Miss Mag.  Join us on Saturday, August 23rd from 2:00p.m.-5:p.m. at Whole Foods for Beer & Brats.  LMM will receive 50% of the proceeds to help us continue to add fresh fruit and vegetables to our daily menu.  We hope to see you all there!

Transition to Kindergarten Workshop

Please join us Tuesday, March 25th from 5:30-6:30 for the Transition to Kindergarten Workshop.  We will be discussing the curriculum for kindergarten readiness along with the importance of social/emotional development.  Snacks and child care provided.  Please sign up at the front desk if you would like to attend.  This event is open to all parents.

GOLD ASSESSMENTS!

What is the GOLD ASSESSMENT?

Because the complex, uneven nature of child development and learning makes it impossible
to measure every skill and behavior that children demonstrate in the early years, Teaching
Strategies GOLD™ measures the knowledge, skills, and behaviors that are predictive or
most important for school success, focusing on 36 basic objectives and two additional
objectives related to English language acquisition. Objectives are organized into nine
areas of development and learning; the first four describe major areas of child growth and
development (social–emotional, physical, oral language, and cognitive), and the following
five focus on content learning (literacy, mathematics, science and technology, social studies,
and the arts). A tenth area, English language acquisition, helps teachers follow a child’s
progress in acquiring both receptive and expressive language in English. Teaching Strategies
GOLD™ can be used as one of many tools to inform state efforts as educators develop
their own school readiness criteria. It is also appropriate for use with any developmentally
appropriate curriculum.
